Luis Carrière, full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), has participated as guest professor in the 4th International Congress of Orthodontics Enrique Mejía Burgos and Eduardo Galvis Jiménez, which took place in the University Foundation CIEO-UNICIEO of Bogotá (Colombia), celebrated between the 5th and 7th of April. Within the framework of this congress, the academician was awarded an honorary doctorate by this institution.
During the sessions, Carrière taught with Ana María Cantor a course on the Carrière System and the simplification of the orthodontic procedure in complex occlusions class I, class II and class III and presented the Sagittal First system as an alternative to orthognathic surgery. The meeting was attended by about 400 orthodontic specialists, all of them graduates of UNICIEO throughout the more than 30 years of history of their department of specialization in Orthodontics.
Carrière received the title of doctor honoris causa from the rector of this institution, Camilo Quintana, in a ceremony in which he was also accompanied by the academic vice-rector Jaime Silva and professors Enrique Mejía and Eduardo Galvis. Carrière is internationally recognised as a great innovator of orthodontics thanks to its revolutionary Carriere SLX Bracket and Carriere Motion 3D systems.
