The Postgraduate Institute in Humanities of the Mexican city of Torreón has dedicated its Oral Judgment Chamber to Jesús Gerardo Sotomayor, magistrate of the Superior Court of Justice of the State of Coahuila and corresponding academician for Mexico of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED). Sotomayor graduated precisely in this institution, which is part of the Community of Higher Education Institutions of La Laguna, with which the RAED maintains close ties.
The academician treasures a long career as a lawyer, teacher and researcher. He was director of the Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of Coahuila and established the first postgraduate studies in Law in Coahuila and Durango. After a long career as head of various courts, he is currently a magistrate of the Superior Court of Justice, a responsibility that combines with legal studies and the publication of numerous historical and informative works.
The tribute to Sotomayor was held on November 22 in the same classroom that now bears his name in the presence of the director of the institution, Juan Calvillo, and the representative of the Governor of the State, Omar Morales. “This is a new challenge for me with this educational institution of the Science of Law, because every day there is much more interest in the institutions by the students, in the specific case in the Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University and in all the others with whom I have collaborated at some time”, said the honouree during the act.
