Ferran Guedea, professor of Radiology and Physical Medicine at the University of Barcelona, ​​director of Radiation Oncology of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), participated in the 3rd congress of Targa Collaborative Group, that has been held in Orlando (Florida). The sessions took place between the past 8 and 9 February and was attended by more than 200 specialists.

Gedea presented the paper “IORT in breast cancer: Precision Hypofractionated Therapy with an inmune response. Initial Results”. The speech, which lasted for one hour, served to present the research being done by the Catalan Institute of Oncology in stimulating the immunity of patients when a very high dose of radiotherapy is administered in a very well localised area, in this case at the level of the breast. The technique that allows this immune stimulation is intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) with Intrabeam.

The Congress was chaired by Jay Vayvan, promoter of these meetings, and stood out for both the high participation and the quality of communications. The academician of the RAED is a reference in radiotherapy treatments and has carried out several projects in the ICO of international scope that has been presented in reference congresses.
