José Daniel Barquero, general director of ESERP Business & Law School and full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), received on 21 February the Spanish Commendation of the Order of Civil Merit for his contributions to science and university education, both from the academic institution that he directs and the research he has developed over more than three decades on the social and economic sciences. The solemn act of recognition was held at the headquarters of the Spanish Government Delegation in Barcelona under the chairmanship of the Government delegate in Catalonia, Teresa Cunillera.
During the ceremony and after receiving the Commendation, Barquero offered some emotional words of thanks for the recognition obtained by his professional career in which he did not forget his family or his work at the Royal Academy. Cunillera, for his part, valued in her speech the professional career of the academician and made mention of the value and the need that today’s society has to be able to count on such persons.
Instituted by Spanish King Alfonso XIII in 1926 to reward “the civic virtues of the civil servants at the service of the State, as well as the extraordinary services of the Spanish and foreign citizens in the good of the nation”, the Order of Civil Merit is, together with the Royal Order of Isabel the Catholic, the main civil recognition that grants the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain.
