Francisco López Muñoz, full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), entered as corresponding member at the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Cadizduring a solemn session held on 3 March. The recipient read the speech “Ointments of witches and love potions in cervantines novels and the role of Dioscórides of Andrés Laguna”, an investigation that had already earned the award In Memóriam Profesor Orozco Acuaviva, granted this royal corporation.
López Muñoz is Professor of Pharmacology at the University Camilo José Cela of Madrid and director of its International PhD School. He holds a PhD in Medicine and Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid and a PhD in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Alcalá.
The Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Cadiz is one of the oldest in Spain, because it has its origin in the Royal College of Surgeons of the Navy created by Pedro Virgili in 1748 and later in the Cadiz Medical Society of Saint Raphael (1785 ).
