Francisco Javier Garrido Morales, corresponding academician for Chile of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), inaugurated the 2017 doctorate course of the National University of Cuyo in Mendoza (Argentina), with a lecture on “El significado y la importancia de ser doctor” (The meaning and importance to be a doctor).

Garrido noted the origins of the doctorate and the role of academics “to access the truth, to defend life, to work for science and to proclaim intercultural coexistence”. Doctor in Economic and Business Sciences, Garrido reviewed the origins of the formation that gave rise to the current doctorate, as well as the fundamental contributions of institutions such as the Academies in the development and projection of the scientific vocation in the contemporary world.
