Dr. Jorge Bachs
Jorge Bachs, professor of the Area of Financial Economics and Accounting at the University of Barcelona, director of the Private Foundation of Saint Cross and Saint Paul Hospital in Barcelona and corresponding academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), has promoted the creation and implementation of the Kalida Saint Paul Center, a new and innovative space for psychosocial support of cancer for patients, caregivers and family members that have been in operation since last May. The New Tops Foundation has also participated in the development of the equipment.
The Kalida Sanit Paul Center, unique in Spain, follows the experience of the international network of British Maggie’s centers, in which it’s inspired. Made up of professionals specialized in cancer support (psycho-oncologists, nurses, social workers and therapists), Kalida Saint Paul offers emotional, practical, social and free support to anyone with cancer and their closest environment. The assistance program complements the medical treatments provided by hospitals, which is why it has been located very close to the Saint Cross and Saint Paul Hospital, a strategic location that facilitates the relationship with its Oncology Service.
The Italian architect established in Spain Benedetta Tagliabue has been responsible for devising the building that houses this new center. It’s a protective architectural environment, friendly and surrounded by greenery. The interior design, meanwhile, has been done by the architect and interior designer Patricia Urquiola, who has created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a home away home.
