Salvador de Brocà donates to the Library of the Academy his work “Cultura i pensament en l’època del Barroc”

Salvador de Brocà, full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), has donated to the Academy Library his work “Cultura i pensament en l’època del Barroc” (Culture and thought in the age of Baroque, ed. Obrador Edèndum), where he offers a multidisciplinary view of the Baroque.

“The Baroque age is a period for the history of ideas and culture in general, which can be defined by a renewing style of iconography and art forms, tending towards grandiosity, exaggeration and extravagance -De Brocà explains-. In the religious field, the movement of the Counter-Reformation took place, in the political field real absolutism was imposed, in the social sphere, the economy was depersonalized, and in the ideological order appeared the great systems of rationalism and empiricism presided over the figure of Descartes, a symbolic transition from the Renaissance scholastic to a modern thought, and experimental modern science appears from Galileo and Newton, all of which questions traditional knowledge”.

Doctor of Philosophy and Letters, De Brocà is a member of the Catalan Society of Philosophy and the Royal Academy of Good Letters. He has been professor of the Rovira i Virgili University and of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of the Archbishopric of Tarragona and is the author of a dozen reference books on philosophy and history of thought.
