The renowned orthopedist and surgeon Ramon Cugat will enter as full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED) next Thursday, June 2, during a solemn session to be held in the auditorium of Fomento del Trabajo Nacional (via Laietana, 32, main floor, Barcelona). The recipient will read the inaugural speech “Fútbol y lesiones de meniscos” (Football and meniscal injuries) which reflects his vast experience of interventions in the knee. Will respond on behalf of the RAED the academician Pedro Clarós.

Medical advisor to the President of the Catalan Football Federation and director of the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit of Hospital Universitari del Mar, in Barcelona, Cugat chairs the Medical Board of Mutuality Footballers of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and directs his medical team.

As a teacher he has lectured at numerous conferences and collaborated in training courses of arthroscopic surgery, a specialty on which cherishes numerous publications. Hi is also pioneered in biological treatments for the recovery of traumatic injuries. He works as an associate at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona, is chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Garcia Cugat Foundation for Biomedical Research. In June 2013 the Department of Surgery and Regenerative Medicine Garcia Cugat Foundation was established in the CEU Cardenal Herrera University, of which he is honorary professor.
