Jaume Antich, Secretary-General of the International College of Criminal Lawyers and full member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (READ), and Javier Junceda, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the International University of Catalonia and also a full member of the READ, are members of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme in Diplomatic and Consular Law at the Barcelona Bar Association. Antich, who also teaches on the institution’s Master’s Degree in Compliance, addresses the criminal-law protection of internationally protected persons. At the same time, Junceda contributes the session “Diplomacy from the Perspective of Administrative Law: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

The postgraduate programme addresses topics such as the functions of diplomacy, immunity, the inviolability of embassies and consulates, the European Union’s external relations, liaison magistrates within Spanish embassies, the different forms of diplomacy — bilateral, multilateral, direct and ad hoc — consular assistance and protection and the diplomatic protection of nationals, consular functions in matters of private law, diplomatic crises — including the expulsion of diplomats, the recall of ambassadors for consultations and the severance of relations from a legal perspective — and the criminal-law protection of internationally protected persons, as well as seminars and practical case studies.
Antich is a lecturer in Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where he also teaches on the Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession and Court Representation, and has supervised numerous undergraduate and master’s dissertations. He is also a lecturer in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the Public Security Institute of Catalonia and has served as Deputy Director of the Master’s Degree in International Criminal Justice of the International College of Criminal Lawyers and Rovira i Virgili University. A practising lawyer since 2003, he heads his own law firm in Barcelona, specialising in Criminal Law, International Criminal Law and Corporate Compliance. He is an honorary member of the European High Council of Doctors and Honorary Doctors, a member of the International Association of Penal Law and a member of the Spanish Compliance Association, among other professional organisations.
Throughout his career, he has held various institutional positions, including President and Vice-President of the Young Lawyers Group, as well as Secretary of the Compliance Section and of the International Criminal Justice and Human Rights Commission of the Barcelona Bar Association, among others. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, has participated as a speaker in more than fifty national and international conferences, and regularly contributes as an expert to various media outlets. His research focuses on International Criminal Law, the criminal liability of legal entities and Compliance. He has recently been appointed President of the International Criminal Justice and Human Rights Commission of the Barcelona Bar Association.
Dr Javier Junceda
For his part, Junceda is Founder and Director of Junceda Abogados, a full member of the Royal Institute of Asturian Studies, where he chairs the Commission on Law, Social and Economic Sciences, and a full member of the Royal Asturian Academy of Jurisprudence. He is also a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Spain and of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language, as well as an honorary member of the Peruvian Academy of Law. He is a member of the Barcelona Arbitration Court, the Arbitration Court of the European Association of Arbitration, based in Madrid, and the Arbitration Court of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Urban Planning and Territorial Planning Commission of the Principality of Asturias, appointed from among experts of recognised prestige, and a member of the Advisory Council of the Spanish Association of Urban Planning Law.
He has participated as an expert in 18 parliamentary committees on legislative reforms and has drafted various bills, legislative proposals and regulatory provisions. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 legal works, some of which have provided the basis for judicial decisions by the Constitutional Court of Chile, the Supreme Court of Peru and courts in Bolivia. He has received mentions in the Luis Sela Sampil Awards for doctrinal articles organised by the Faculty of Law of the University of Oviedo, and on two occasions in the prestigious Financial Studies Award (1992 and 2012), organised by the Centre for Financial Studies in Madrid. He is also a member of the editorial boards of 14 Spanish and international legal journals. He has been awarded honorary doctorates by six foreign universities and appointed honorary professor by a further six. He has served as director, speaker or lecturer in more than fifty training programmes held in Spain and Ibero-America.
