Precision nutrition: from the classical foundations of food to the challenge of personalised health

Precision nutrition represents the evolution of traditional healthy eating towards a personalised, preventive model based on molecular biology. Inspired by precision medicine, it integrates genetic, metabolic, metagenomic, biological, clinical and lifestyle factors to establish nutritional strategies that improve each person’s quality of life. Its potential as a public health tool is enormous, both in disease prevention and in support of medical treatments.

Fields such as oncology, women’s health, childhood and frailty in ageing are priority areas of application. Its development and application in daily life also involve major challenges: ensuring scientific evidence, equity of access, data protection, professional training and integration into healthcare systems. Among these challenges is the incorporation of digital tools and artificial intelligence that make it possible to translate complex scientific knowledge into simple, safe recommendations that can be easily applied in society.
