The Inter-academic Council of Catalonia has started the course held by all Catalan academies attached to a series of conferences and round tables this year revolving around food from a multidisciplinary point of view to highlight its importance from the various fields of scientific knowledge and and respond to the advantages and risks of new trends.

The sessions will include the Royal Academy of Good Letters of Barcelona, ​​the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy and Nutrition, the Catalan Association of Food Sciences, the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia, the Catalan Institute of Agricultural Studies, the Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Catalonia, the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, ​​the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, the Catalan Center for Nutrition and the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), which will organize the table on February 1th round “New foods, probiotics and prebiotics”.

According to the organizing committee, the cycle invites to know and reflect on food trends, the generation of false ideas about food, new myths, those that are perpetuated, how they affect our health, what remedies drugs offer us or what can be do for us a healthy microbiota. Without forgetting the strong component that links food to culture and history and that determines food constumbres. Likewise, the cycle analyzes the industrial production of food, the pollution linked to it, the impact on the environment and biodiversity and the challenge of supplying a growing population.

The Interacademic Council was created in 1991, promoted by the Government of Catalonia as a space for shared reflection, participation and debate to consolidate itself as a model with its own personality and service vocation, according to its founding principles.
