Alberto Estrada-Rius, curator chef of Numismatic Cabinet of Catalonia, attributes the important diplomatic role of Barcelona to consular tradition of the city since the Middle Ages, when it has up 70 overseas consuls around the Mediterranean and Flanders. “Without the weight of history will not understand that the city place today between hosting more consular delegations, behind only New York, Hong Kong and Hamburg by trade issues”, he said.
Estrada-Rius made this reflection during his admission as corresponding academician of the Royal Euroepan Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), held in Barcelona on Tuesday, October 18.
