Respondent: His Excellency Dr Rafael Urrialde de Andrés, Doctor in Biological Sciences

Dr Javier Redondo Muñoz, PhD. (Madrid, 1982)
Staff Scientist at the Margarita Salas Centre for Biological Research (CSIC), specialised in leukaemia, epigenetics and cell migration. Doctor in Immunology from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and graduate in Biochemistry from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
He has developed his research career at institutions such as the CSIC, the University of Manchester (United Kingdom) and the UCM. He currently leads the group “Nuclear biomechanics and epigenetics during cell migration”, focused on understanding how nuclear architecture and epigenetic regulation control the dissemination of leukaemia.
He is the author of more than 25 scientific publications in high-impact international journals, many of them as lead or corresponding author, in areas such as immunology, cell biology and cancer. He has led competitive national and international projects, obtaining more than 2.2 million euros in funding from public agencies, foundations and international programmes. He has supervised doctoral theses and trained postdoctoral researchers, technicians and university students.
His distinctions include competitive contracts and fellowships (Ramón y Cajal, Juan de la Cierva, Gilead Scholarship, John Goldman Fellowship, Leonardo), awards for best doctoral thesis and best publications, as well as positive evaluations of research excellence. He has actively participated in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with various institutions, including the UCM, the University of Manchester and the Francisco de Vitoria University, in scientific evaluation for national and international agencies, and in outreach and academic leadership activities.
