José Ramón Calvo has donated to the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED) a special copy of his renowned work “El tabaco: de producto deseado a producto maldito” (The tobacco: from product desired to damn product) which has appeared in various academic and health forums. The work, which he joined as corresponding academician at the Academy of Sciences and Engineering of Lanzarote, reviews the eventful history of a consumer product began as miraculous and even “cure disease”, created in the twentieth century a social habit and was capable of generating huge profits for tobacco companies to become, after much research, a product to which the direct causation of more than 30 different diseases is recognized and that this has given rise to increasingly restrictive legislation.
