Josep Maria Sans, full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), has donated to the Library of the Academy the book “Sant Ramon, fundador del Monestir de Santa Maria de Vallbona” (Pagès editors) (Saint Raymond, founder of the Monastery of Saint Mary of Vallbona), where he traces through documents of the time the story of Raymond of Vallbona, the hermit who at the end of the 12th century founded the Cistercian community that would end up building the monastery of Saint Mary, in Vallbona de les Monges (Lleida).
Sans traces the biography of Raymond, whom the community of Saint Mary of Vallbona has always venerated as a saint, and highlights his influence in order, through his sermons, to bring numerous faithful to a hermit life. Before his death, the anchorite managed to get the General Chapter of Cistercians to accept the protection of his community within the religious order. His legacy has reached the present, although his remains were burned during the Spanish Civil War.
