The YouTube channel of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED) already has the video summary of the act of admission as full academician of María del Mar Alonso, doctor in Economic and Business Sciences, which was held in Barcelona last February 27. The recipient read the admission speech “El nuevo materialismo del siglo XXI: luces y sombras” (The new materialism of the 21st century: lights and shadows). On behalf of the RAED answered the full academician Pedro Aznar.
Professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Alonso certified in his work the end of materialism and the accumulation of wealth as the main exponent of economic and social success and, therefore, of the feeling of happiness. The new academician explained how with the irruption and expansion of new technologies and in the new political, social and cultural context that has left the last economic crisis, Western societies are moving towards a collaborative and circular society where the exchange of services and experiences replace to the accumulation of material goods.
