Dr Luis Pons
Luis Pons, a corresponding academic of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (READ), shares with the academic community the photo gallery «The Living Nativity of Corbera», published last December 4 in the section «Readers’ Photos» of the digital edition of the newspaper «La Vanguardia». One of the images from his previous photo gallery published in the same section, «The Colors of Autumn in the Montseny», has been selected as one of the best photos of November. Pons explains that to carry out this work he had to forgo the use of flash and used a very fast lens suitable for low-light photography.
«The town of Corbera de Llobregat fully commits to the representation of nativity scenes, with more than 200 participants and around fifty performances, in a blend consistent with Catalan and Hebrew traditions traditionally used in nativity scenes in Catalonia. The magic of Christmas arrives early thanks to this fantastic staging. The lighting and the human quality of the participants, together with the Association Pesebre Viviente Amigos de Corbera, have allowed me to create a photographic report that I wish to share with readers,» the author himself introduces his latest photo gallery.
The academic is one of the regular photographers in this section, where he has published several photographic series on a wide range of themes that have been very well received by the newspaper’s readers. Among his most recent galleries are «The Chupa Chups of the Collserola Tower,» «Images of the Sant Joan Eve Celebration,» «How Were the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Seen in Barcelona?» «A Guide to Identifying the Birds of Diagonal Mar,» «When the Moon Rises Next to the Glòries Tower,» «The Creative Universe of Frida Kahlo, in Monochrome and in Color,» «Are Pickpockets Making a Comeback in Barcelona?» «Dragonflies Return to Barcelona,» «The Milky Way with Meteors in the Cerdanya,» «The Settings of Bécquer’s ‘El rayo de luna’,» «The Buck Moon Settles over La Ràpita,» «Omega Effect of the Moon in the Ebro Delta,» as well as the aforementioned and award-winning «The Colors of Autumn in the Montseny.»
Luis Pons discovered photography in the 1980s, driven both by his interest in the chemical process involved in developing photographic prints and by his close ties with the photography sections of the newspapers «El País» and «Avui», where he worked as an executive, as he has explained to the academics who have followed his work closely in recent years. From there, he made the transition to digital photography.
