Ignacio Buqueras, full academician of the Humanities Section of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain, honorary president of the National Commission for the Rationalization of Spanish Hours and full academician elected of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 ( RAED), invites academicians and friends of the RAED to reflect on the recent change of time and read his latest book that refers to a habit that today has no meaning: “Dejemos de perder el tiempo” (Stop wasting time) (LID). Jorge Cagigas, president of the Board of the Spanish Foundation for the Development of the Human Resources Function, also participates in the work.
“Even though, as Gandhi said, a minute is irrecoverable, the truth is that we waste a lot of our lives in this way. ‘Dejemos de perder el tiempo’ is intended to be a wake-up call to the business, political and institutional world that prefers presenteeism over optimizing time and having unmotivated workers in front of happy people in the workplace. That we are European leaders in low birth rates, marital separations and school failure also has a great relationship with our work schedules”, the authors point out in the presentation of the work.
The book of Buqueras y Cagigas aims to change the mentality regarding the use of time, and does it talking about the right workday, the advantages of time flexibility, the work lunches, the prime time of televisions, the meetings… Because for the authors, being clear about the objectives of meeting with someone, fixing their duration, convening and preparing them in advance, evokes what Henry Ford said: most people spend more time and energy talking about problems than in face them. In the book they offer many and very practical tips to overcome all these difficulties.
