Two Degrees More Are Not Such a Big Deal. A History of Climate Change Denial
This book offers a historical analysis of climate change denial, from its earliest stage rooted in scientific denialism in the final decade of the nineteenth century; subsequently evolving into active denialism, promoted and largely funded by fossil fuel companies from the 1950s to the present day, framing global warming as a theory rather than as an established fact.
Finally, after 1990, it also became a political ideology, in which climate change denial is positioned as a core element of neoliberal ideological thinking.
The book addresses developments following the 2015 Paris Agreement, such as “delayism” and “technological neutrality”, in decision-making processes related to actions aimed at mitigating and adapting to the effects and impacts of current climate change.
It highlights the crucial difference between legitimate scientific debate, which seeks to investigate and understand the dynamics and evolution of climate systems, and climate change denial, which aims to deny or undermine the reality of the phenomenon itself and the climate science that supports it.
