Dr. Manuel Sans

Manuel Sans Segarra, President of the Senior Section of the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona and Numerary Member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED), will bring his talk “Manuel Sans Segarra: Supraconsciousness Exists. Life After Life” to Barcelona, where it will be presented at the Teatro Borràs on Saturday, November 15, following its debut at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía in Madrid. In this lecture, accompanied by visual and explanatory material, the speaker presents his research on the existence of supraconsciousness and near-death experiences—an investigation he began during hismedical career after encountering his first such case while working as an emergency physician. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to disseminating and sharing his findings to foster a deeper understanding of this phenomenon, which is often associated with pseudoscientific fields. His conferences and media appearances have established him as one of the leading experts in this area. Sans Segarra was admitted to the RAED last May with his inaugural address titled “Supraconsciousness: Our Existential Reality.”

A pioneer in the use of laparoscopy in general surgery, former Head of Digestive Surgery at Bellvitge University Hospital, Professor of General and Digestive Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona, and recipient of the Award for Professional Excellence from the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona, Sans Segarra recounts how the experience of one of his patients—who was revived after being clinically dead following a traffic accident while Sans Segarra was on emergency duty—profoundly changed his perspective. That event inspired him to study the phenomenon from a strictly scientific standpoint. Since then, he and his medical team have documented five clinical cases of patients in a state of clinical death who were brought back to life. He has summarized and popularized his research in his recent books “Supraconsciousness: Life After Life” and “Ego and Supraconsciousness: Searching for the Meaning of Life,” both published by Planeta.

The expert defines supraconsciousness as a form of awareness that exists beyond the physical body and the mind—an idea that challenges the traditional view of death as the end of existence. During his lectures, the academic shares the testimonies of patients who, while in deep states of unconsciousness, reported vivid experiences that medicine has yet to fully explain. He emphasizes that life takes on a new meaning once we understand that consciousness is not confined to the body but is part of a broader, deeper reality. At that point, he calls for the discovery of supraconsciousness as a path to genuine freedom, happiness, and health, inviting his audiences to live with greater awareness of the present—freeing themselves from fear and the dominance of the ego in order to reconnec twith their deepest essence.

In his presentation, Sans Segarra explores the historical evolution of phenomena related to returning from death and how their interpretation has varied according to the religious and cultural context of each era. He examines the different hypotheses about hallucinations and other phenomena linked to near-death experiences, quantum biology, the diverse manifestations and properties of supraconsciousness, and methods to access it. He also discusses the origins of consciousness and intelligence, concluding that near-death experiences are a frequent and enduring human phenomenon that cannot simply be dismissed as hallucinations, as conventional medicine tends to do without pursuing a deeper understanding.
