Description of the act
In commemoration of March 8, International Women’s Day, Dr. José Antonio Lejárcegui Fort, Numerary Member of the RAED and in tribute to the Academic women of the Institution, will give the conference “La Historia del Movimiento Feminista” (The History of the Feminist Movement).
The content of the parliament will deal with the events that caused the need to remember forever one of the most relevant historical events in the experience of women, which were key to developing the principle of equal rights for women and men. Likewise, the most relevant facets that have taken place throughout history of women’s struggle to achieve this goal from ancient times to the present day will be discussed. The panoramic vision runs from the so-called proto-feminism or pre-modern feminism called “the Women’s Complaint” to the first feminist wave on the occasion of the French Revolution and the Enlightenment. From this moment on, the objectives to be achieved are to obtain equal rights for women with respect to men in aspects such as equal opportunities in education, suffrage, working life, in politics, in arts and literature, etc. Ultimately, reference is made to the contribution of relevant figures in the evolution of feminism in Catalonia.
