Dr Nuria Vallcorba
Nuria Vallcorba, Director of Clínica Vallcorba, former President of the Sociedad Catalana de Odontología and of the Sociedad Española de Periodoncia y Osteointegración, and an Academician on leave of absence of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (READ), has been honored with the Promotion of Periodontology Award 2025 at the SEPA Congress held from 26 to 29 November at the Barcelona International Convention Centre under the motto «More Knowledge, Better Clinical Experience.» The distinction, granted by the Board of Trustees of the Fundación SEPA, recognizes her extensive and successful career, highlighting her clinical work, her commitment to high-quality education, and her efforts in outreach and bringing periodontology closer to society.
«Receiving this award is an immense satisfaction and a great honor. When you devote yourself to what you truly believe in—offering health to people—and you are also recognized for it, you cannot feel anything but happiness and gratitude. Periodontology is not just about preserving or gaining a few millimeters of attachment; it is about changing lifestyles that help people maintain their teeth, health, and quality of life. Yet we still need to raise greater awareness among the general population about what gum diseases are, what causes them, and how they are treated in order to maintain teeth and implants, because greater knowledge will enable patients to identify signs of disease earlier and understand the importance of periodontal check-ups,» the academic said emotionally upon receiving the award.
Vallcorba drove the discipline forward during her tenure as SEPA President between 2010 and 2013, a period in which she provided a decisive boost to its modernization, growth, professionalization, and strategic development. She is currently an Honorary Trustee of the Foundation she also helped establish, creating a model that has since been replicated by other Spanish dental societies and periodontology organizations in other countries. She also founded the outreach magazine «Cuida tus Encías», launched the management courses developed by the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osteointegration, and created the specific hygiene training pathway included in the organization’s annual congresses.
The academic has previously been recognized with the Professional Excellence Award granted by the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona, as well as the Santa Apolonia Award awarded by the General Council of Dentists of Spain and the Pro-Odontology Award of the Catalan Society of Dentistry. These honors recognize professionals in the field who have stood out for their work, dedication, and contribution to the prestige and development of dentistry throughout their professional lives.
