PhD in Pharmacy and Master’s in Nutrition from the Complutense University of Madrid. During her post-doctoral stage, she was affiliated with research groups at the University of Granada, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and the University of Bonn (Germany). In 2004, she joined the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and since 2012, she has been a Professor of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology in the area of Physical Education and Sports at the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (INEF) at this university.

She is the head of the Research Group on Nutrition, Exercise, and Healthy Lifestyle (ImFINE). She currently serves as the President of the Spanish Society of Nutrition (SEÑ), Scientific Manager of Exercise is Medicine® Spain, Member of the Boards of the Federation of European Nutrition Societies (FENS), and the European Initiative of Exercise is Medicine (EIEIM). Additionally, she is a Fellow of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) and a founding member of the EXERNET network. She is also a member of the CIBERobn Network.

She holds the position of Corresponding Academic at the Royal National Academy of Pharmacy (Spain). Throughout her professional career, she has been interested in the intersection of Nutrition, Performance, and Health. Her main research lines include the interaction of physical exercise and diet on quality of life and aging, the search and interpretation of biomarkers, and the early identification of malnutrition, cognitive deterioration, and physical condition. Her research also focuses on their relationship with pathophysiological parameters, especially vitamins and markers of metabolic risk, sports nutrition and hydration, and Health Education.

With over 400 publications to her name, she has supervised 45 Master’s theses and 19 doctoral theses, all awarded the highest distinction. The majority of these have an international scope, spanning various universities. She has participated in more than 70 research projects and delivered over 250 conferences at both national and international levels. She has received several awards, including the Second National Research Prize in Sports Medicine 2016, awarded by the University of Oviedo.
