Manel Esteller Badosa is one of the international leaders in epigenetics and cancer research. Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona (UB), he is a Professor of Genetics at the Faculty of Medicine of the same, and is also a Research Professor at the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA).

After his training at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital, the University of Saint Andrews in Scotland and the Johns Hopkins University cancer center, he founded the Epigenetics Group of the National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), in Madrid, the first laboratory to investigate this discipline applied to oncology in Europe. After directing the Epigenetics and Cancer Biology Program (PEBC), at the Bellvitge biomedical campus, he is currently director of the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute (IJC), in Barcelona.

Among other awards, he has received the Carmen y Severo Ochoa Prize for Research in Molecular Biology, the National Genetics Prize, the King Jaume I Prize, the National Research Prize of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the International Catalonia Prize. He is the author of more than 600 publications, being considered one of the most cited scientists worldwide according to Stanford University.
