Born in Barcelona, Dr. Fernando Casado graduated in Economics, Business and Insurance Actuarial Sciences in 1967 at the University of Barcelona.
In 1976 he was awarded with a PhD in Economics and Business Administration, with distinction “Summa Cum Laude”. In 1984, he obtains the Business and Economics Chair at the University of Barcelona, in 1986 the Accounting and Financial Chair, and in 1987 the Marketing and Market Research Chair. From 1989 to 1993 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Barcelona.
Since 1991 he is member of the “Real Academia de Ciencias Económicas y Financieras” (Royal Academy of Economics and Finance Sciences) currently serving on its Board as Secretary-General and since 2005 he is a member of the “Real Academia Europea de Doctores” (Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona).
From 1993-2010 he was General Manager of the “Instituto de la Empresa Familiar” (Spanish Family-Owned Business Institute). During these years, he has had the opportunity to have a thorough knowledge and to act as a professional consultant for the most relevant Family-Owned Business in Spain. From November 2010 to February 2011 he was President of “Caixa Catalunya and from March 2011 to February 2017 he was General Manager of Consejo Empresarial para la Competitividad, CEC, (The Spanish Business Council for Competitiveness).
Currently Dr. Fernando Casado is the CEO of Fundación Formacion y Futuro (The Foundation in Training and Future in Barcelona) and Vice Chairman of the Board of ASEPEYO. He is member of the Board of Directors of Ordesa S.A. and Frigicoll S.L., member of the Advisory Board of Havas Media Spain, and member of the Editorial Board of “El Economista” newspaper. Also, is senior Consultant of International Industrial Competitiveness of FISZ (Industrial Federation of Shenzhen. China) and since 2002, he is a Visiting Professor at IESE – Graduate Business School of the University of Navarra.
Previously he was a member of the General Assembly of La Caixa financial group. Between 2004 and 2010 he was member of the Board of Directors of the Family Firm Institute (USA) and member of the Advisory Board of the Fundación de Estudios Financieros (Financial Studies Foundation). He was member of the Board of Directors of Mediolanum Bank until March 2005 and member of the Board of Trustees of the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (University of Barcelona) until 2002. Between 1994 and 2001 he was member of the Executive Board of the Family Business Network International (Switzerland). From 1997 to 2002 he was named Secretary-General of the European Family Business Association. He was Board Member of Corporación Financiera Alba (Alba Financial Coorporation) until November 2010 and member of the Advisory Board of Accentur until December 2015, among other positions.
