TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY:
- In 1995, he became Chair of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he serves as Director of the University Institute of Biomedical and Health Research and the Nutrition Research Group, and holds the UNESCO Chair on Local Health Systems and Food Systems.
- He is founder and President of the Spanish Academy of Nutrition, the Foundation for Nutritional Research, the NGO Nutrition Without Borders, and the International Foundation of Mediterranean Diet.
- He founded and chaired, from 2006 to 2012, the Mediterranean Diet Foundation.
PUBLICATIONS:
- He has published 70 books and 485 indexed scientific articles, with an impact factor above 2000 and an H-index of 74.
- He has supervised 44 doctoral theses and organised several international congresses, including the I and III World Congress of Public Health Nutrition.
