Mayor of the National District of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic: first woman to hold this position, recognized for promoting sustainable urban development, improving public services, and fostering social leadership.
Rosa Carolina Mejía Gómez
Rosa Carolina Mejía Gómez, re-elected Mayor of the Distrito Nacional, has emerged as a prominent figure in leadership and public management in the Dominican Republic. Since her first election in 2020, her tenure has been defined by a strong commitment to people’s well-being, sustainable urban development, and the improvement of public services. In her role as Secretary General of the Partido Revolucionario Moderno, which she assumed in 2016, she has imprinted a renewed strategic vision, driving unprecedented strengthening of this political platform.
Her influence and performance transcend national borders, as evidenced by her election as Regional Vice President for Social Policy and Welfare of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities (UCCI). This milestone highlights her tireless work for progress and the exchange of knowledge and experiences to advance communities.
Before entering public life at the municipal level, Mejía played key roles in both the private sector and government administration. She stood out as Founding Partner of R. H. Mejía & Co., as a member of the Advisory Council to the President of the Republic, and as a key participant in the negotiation of the DR-CAFTA free trade agreement.
Her robust academic training includes executive programs in leadership at Bloomberg & Harvard and in management at Barna-EADA. Her lectures reflect a focus on well-being and sustainability — themes that have guided her political action and future vision, marking a leadership firmly committed to comprehensive and sustainable development.
