Dr. MARCELA GONZÁLEZ-GROSS
UNIVERSITY DEGREES
- PhD in Pharmacy and Master’s in Nutrition from the Complutense University of Madrid. During her postdoctoral stage, she was associated with research groups at the University of Granada, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Bonn (Germany).
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY
- In 2004, she joined the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and since 2012 she has been Full Professor of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology in the area of Physical and Sports Education at the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences – INEF of that university. She leads the Research Group on Nutrition, Exercise and Healthy Lifestyle (ImFINE).
- She is the current President of the Spanish Nutrition Society (SEÑ).
- Scientific Manager of Exercise is Medicine® Spain.
- Member of the Executive Board of the Federation of European Nutrition Societies (FENS).
- Member of the Executive Board of the European Initiative of Exercise is Medicine (EIEIM).
- Fellow of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS).
- Founding member of the EXERNET network.
- Member of the CIBER Network for Obesity and Nutrition (CIBERobn).
- Corresponding Academician of the Royal National Academy of Pharmacy (Spain).
- From the beginning of her professional career, she has been interested in the Nutrition–Performance–Health triad.
- Her main lines of research include: the interaction of physical exercise and diet in quality of life and ageing, the search for and interpretation of biomarkers, the early identification of malnutrition, cognitive and physical impairment and their relationship with pathophysiological parameters (especially vitamins and metabolic risk markers), sports nutrition and hydration, and Health Education.
PUBLICATIONS
- Author of more than 400 publications, she has supervised 45 Master’s theses and 19 PhD dissertations, all with honours (cum laude), most of them international, at various universities. She has participated in more than 70 research projects and delivered over 250 lectures at national and international level.
AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS
- Second National Research Award in Sports Medicine 2016, granted by the University of Oviedo.
