TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

  • President of IT Investments, an investment holding with subsidiaries in telecommunications, software development, systems integration, media and e-business (42 companies).
  • Founder and Chairman of Nile Online, responsible for developing Egypt’s Internet infrastructure.
  • Founder and Chairman of the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (1985–1999). Oversaw 1,500 centers, 40,000 jobs, and Egypt’s first centralized data repository.
  • Under his leadership, the IDSC was ranked among the world’s top 100 IT organizations.
  • Founder of more than 29 technology-related organizations, including RITSEC and training centers that trained 300,000 users, 1,239 MBAs and 27,262 executives (1999).
  • Commissioner of the Global Information Infrastructure Commission, Washington.
  • Chaired the group that developed the “Africa Information Society Initiative”, adopted by all African nations.
  • Collaborated with United Nations, World Bank, UNDP, WIPO, WTO, UNCTAD and ILO, among others.
  • Initiated and implemented more than 700 programs and projects in Egypt, the Middle East, the United States and Europe.
  • Professor at the American University in Cairo since 1991. In 2008, the AUC established an annual scholarship in his name.
  • Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Egyptian Museum.
  • President of the Egypt Internet Society.
  • Chair of the Special Needs Children Initiative and member of various cultural institutions (Opera, Culture and Archaeology).
  • Member of the Presidents’ Council of USEgypt (until 2002).
