The academician José Daniel Barquero launches the new International Museum of Haute Pocket Horlogerie

José Daniel Barquero, full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED), has launched the International Museum of Haute Pocket Horlogerie (MIARB), a personal commitment that is the culmination of a long-awaited family project more than 25 years ago and that has more than 1,500 timepieces dating from the 1600s to the 1930s.
The MIARB was born as a virtual initiative and with the aim of giving more prominence to the collection of antique pocket watches, bringing them closer to the general public. Endorsed by the Official Association of Jewellers, Goldsmiths, Watchmakers and Gemmologists of Catalonia and the Spanish Association of Experts in Pocket Watches, the project began in 2017 as a museum, although as a private collection it dates back to 1988. From the collection of 1,500 unique watches, more than 250 are already on display. They date from the end of the 17th century to the middle of the 20th century. Barquero, a former pocket watch expert, leads this initiative as CEO. Ignacio Daniel Barquero also collaborates as technical director.
In the MIARB you can see unique pieces, belonging to such illustrious people as Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Alfonso XIII of Spain, Albert I of Belgium, the Shah of Persia, Farouk I of Egypt, Leopold II of Belgium or French politician Jacques Laffitte. Also included are valuable examples of such prestigious brands as Rolex, Omega, Breguet or Longines, among others, as well as illustrious teachers such as Losada and Cabrier.
MIARB is the first European virtual museum in this specialty. The exhibition allows you to fully enjoy the watches, as it allows you to examine them minutely to the smallest detail of your machinery and box, something impossible in the exhibition of pieces in a traditional museum.
