The YouTube channel of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914 (RAED) already has a video summary of the academic act held in Barcelona on May 8 with the collaboration of the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona under the title “Misterio en vida y muerte. Tutankamón” (Mystery in life and death. Tutankhamun). The session was hosted by Hamdi Zaki, Tourism Adviser of the Government of Egypt in Spain, and was presented by Josep Fèlix Bentz, president of the Royal Artistic Circle.
Zaki explained the fascinating story of a pharaoh who died at age 18 after a reign of just six in which he undertook important changes for the political, social and religious future of Ancient Egypt. Increased by the discovery of his tomb in 1922 by Howard Carter in the Valley of the Kings and its supposed curse, since many of the people who entered the tomb when it was discovered died shortly afterwards.
The mystery that surrounds this pharaoh is also given by the ignorance of the true causes of his death. It’s believed that it was because of a riot in the palace, but it could also be due to an infected wound or an illness, such as malaria. For Zaki, the fascination that Tutankhamun produces three millennia after his death is worth a visit to Egypt, a country that he defined as safe and welcoming.
