- Bachelor of Pharmacy and MBA from the University of Caen (France, 1973).
- Doctor of Pharmacy, specialising in Neurochemistry, from the University of Barcelona (UB).
TEACHING ACTIVITY
- Full Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine, UB.
- Researcher at the Institute of Neurosciences of UB, IDIBAPS and CIBERNED.
- Head of the Neurochemistry Group at the Faculty of Medicine, UB, since 1983.
- Research focused on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration of the central nervous system, with special emphasis on Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
- Collaborations with international institutions such as INSERM and CNRS (France), Penn University (USA), McGill University (Canada), Karolinska Institute (Sweden), UNAM (Mexico) and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Italy).
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY
- Founder of two biotechnology companies (2006) aimed at developing treatments and diagnostics for CNS diseases.
- Vice-Dean of Research at the Faculty of Medicine, UB (1984–1986): organised the first scientific conferences and edited the first research report.
- Creator of the international lectures Santiago Ramón y Cajal and August Pi i Sunyer.
- Involved in the creation of the first Neurological Tissue Bank of Catalonia.
- Organised methodological courses and Catalan-French biomedical meetings.
- Vice-Dean for International Student Exchanges: implemented and managed the ERASMUS Programme with 20 European faculties for six years.
