Dr. Juan Trias de Bes

Juan Trias de Bes (Barcelona, ​​1964) is an architect from the School of Architecture of Barcelona, ​​1991. He opened his professional studio TDB ARQUITECTURA in 1992, in Barcelona, ​​where he maintains the activity of practicing the profession in the field of the building and urbanism.

He is the author of Institutional works, such as the Sarriá University Residence, the Headquarters of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, the headquarters of the Grífols laboratories, or the ESADE University in the Campus of Sant Cugat del Vallés (Barcelona).

In the field of rehabilitation and restoration of buildings, among other works, it accredits interventions such as The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, in the Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona (Post-war Eclecticism), the Convention Center and the institutional headquarters of the ESADE University in the Campus de Barcelona (Functionalism of the ’70s), or the “Casa Burés” Building, intended for collective housing in the Eixample Cerdà Primigenio de Barcelona (Modernism 1900-1905).

In the field of research, he is a member of the Laboratory for Technological Innovation in Industrialized and Sustainable Building (LITEIS) of the International University of Catalonia, where he heads the Research Department “Cátedra hARQware” oriented to the innovation and development of new Technologies of the Information and Communication (ICT) related to architecture.

In the field of Teaching, he is responsible for the Projects area of ​​the School of Architecture (UIC bcn), in which since 2002 he teaches courses for Final Degree Projects and Degree Projects. He has been a visiting professor in several international courses and conferences as in the ITESM program in Barcelona for students from Canada, the United States and Mexico, in the Final Projects project court at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture in Bucharest, in the program of Master of the White Chair of the ETSAB, the School of Architecture of the University of Santiago de Chile, the European Institute of Design in Barcelona, ​​the School of Architecture of Granada, and the Doctoral Thesis in the Faculty of Biology from Barcelona..

In the field of dissemination and knowledge, in 2013 he obtained the qualification “Cum laude” for his Doctoral Thesis, under the title “ARQUITECTURAS MATÉRICAS” by the Department of “Composition and Architectural Theory” of the ETSAB, dedicated to investigate the relationship between Matter and Form. He has also been a speaker at various architecture seminars and is the author of several articles in specialized publications on architectural thought, project theory and own work.

He has recently been distinguished as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Board of the Temple of the Sagrada Familia.
In 2016 he was twice awarded the Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU XIII) in the research and dissemination modalities.
