The Second Digital Revolution: Are the Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence Leading Us to a New Era of Humanity?
The digital revolution is transforming our environment. Artificial intelligence already exceeds human capability in many tasks, yet it still cannot apply empathy, intuition, or ethical judgment. The challenge is not solely technological: it is educational, social, and cultural.
It invites us to reflect on how we want to coexist with intelligent machines and what role knowledge should play in that scenario. Digitalisation and AI are transversal across many spheres of daily life—such as the economy, work, education, politics, health, and social relations. Therefore, transparency, responsibility, and critical thinking are key to ensuring that digital progress becomes a shared advancement rather than a source of exclusion.
The future brings decisive questions: what does it mean to be human in a world where technology may become part of our identity? Will we be able to preserve freedom and creativity within an ecosystem of diverse intelligences? The success of this coexistence will depend on the ability of organisations and society to create inclusive and sustainable strategies.
The author, Antoni Garrell, offers a critical and committed perspective on the great challenge of our time: to think for ourselves in the age of artificial intelligence—the age of the second digital revolution.
