Debate Description
The Ebro Delta is one of the most valuable and fragile ecosystems in the Mediterranean. Shaped over centuries by the river’s input, it is now facing accelerated decline due to a lack of sediment, natural subsidence, and rising sea levels. Should it be restored? What alternatives exist, and what criteria should be used to make decisions when public resources are limited?
In this RAED session, the Delta’s dilemma will be presented as a real-life case of decision-making under uncertainty, where ecological, social, economic, and political factors converge. The debate will invite reflection on how to prioritize, how to manage long time horizons in contrast to short political cycles, and what lessons this territory offers for the management of other at-risk areas.
