A leading figure in university policy, educational management and scientific innovation, he promoted structural reforms to strengthen the national university system and enhance the global projection of Spanish higher education.

UNIVERSITY QUALIFICATIONS

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

  • Throughout his career at UEx, Píriz Durán has combined teaching and research work.
  • He has undertaken research stays at international universities and research centres such as the Institut für Medizinische Mikrobiologie Universität Zürich (Switzerland) and the Department of Microbiology at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland).
  • After winning the elections held on December 1, 2010, he took office on January 10, 2011, as Rector of the Universidad de Extremadura, a position he renewed in December 2014 and held until January 11, 2019.
  • From 2012 to 2015 he was President of the sectorial CRUETIC.
  • Between 2015 and 2017 he served as President of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (Crue).
  • From 2017 to 2019, he was Delegate of the President of Crue for relations with the University Associations of Ibero-America.
  • On February 1, 2019, he joined Planeta Formación y Universidades, where he held the position of Academic Director until September 2022, when he was appointed Rector of UNIE, Universidad Internacional de la Empresa, based in Madrid.

PUBLICATIONS

  • He is co-author of the Manual of Veterinary Microbiology (Interamericana-McGraw Hill, 2002).
