Presentation of the “RAED Tertulias”
The Royal European Academy of Doctors is launching, in 2026, a new cycle of activities under the title “RAED Tertulias”, conceived as a stable forum for shared reflection, interdisciplinary exchange and the active participation of its members. This project arises from the intention to strengthen the Academy’s ordinary activity and to consolidate an ongoing dynamic of collective thinking that complements the formal ceremonies and major institutional sessions that form part of the Academy’s tradition and prestige.
Throughout its history, the Royal European Academy of Doctors has established an institutional model based on rigour, excellence and academic formality. Nevertheless, alongside formal events and sessions of particular institutional relevance, it is equally necessary to provide spaces that encourage more direct, participatory and cross-disciplinary dialogue among members, also open to those interested in the most current issues. The RAED Tertulias are designed precisely to meet this strategic need, through the creation of a regular meeting format aimed at fostering structured academic discussion, the exchange of ideas and the shared construction of reflection.
The initiative to promote this series of Tertulias has been led by Dr. Fernando P. Méndez, Numerary Member and member of the Governing Board of the Royal European Academy of Doctors, whose proposal has made it possible to structure this new format of academic meeting. Thanks to this initiative, the Academy reinforces its regular activity and opens an additional space for participation and dialogue that will contribute to invigorating its institutional life.
Europe in the face of power: sovereignty, innovation and international position
H. Morgenthau defined international relations as relations between sovereign states in terms of power. What must Europeans do if we wish to be a power commensurate with our economic weight? What must we do if we do not wish to fall behind in terms of technological innovation?
