- Degree in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
- Master’s in Stock Exchange and Financial Markets from the Institute of Stock Market Studies.
- Master’s in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government.
- Doctorate in International Relations from the University of Oxford.
- International Rector of IE University.
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY
- Manuel Muñiz is the International Rector of IE University in Madrid, Professor of International Relations, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of IE New York College.
- As International Rector of IE, he contributes to the development and implementation of the institution’s strategy, with more than 10,000 students, a large faculty body, and over 70,000 alumni.
- He is also currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of IE New York College.
- Dean of the School of Political Science, Economics and Global Affairs at IE from 2017 to 2024.
- From June 2023 to January 2025, Dr. Muñiz was President of the Association of Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), the organization that brings together the world’s leading schools of diplomacy and public policy.
- In that same year he was appointed Senior Fellow at Brookings.
- From January 2020 to July 2021 he served as Secretary of State for Global Spain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. In that role, he led the areas of Strategy and Foresight, Economic Diplomacy, and the Communication Department, including the Diplomatic Information Office.
- During his time in government, Dr. Muñiz coordinated the drafting of the 2021–2024 Foreign Action Strategy and led the composition of the “National Strategy for Technology and Global Order”, a document aimed at launching Spanish Technological Diplomacy.
- He also coordinated Spain’s presidency of the OECD in 2020 and was a member of the Expert Group on Covid-19 established by the Prime Minister, which helped design Spain’s De-escalation Strategy.
- Between 2015 and 2017, Dr. Muñiz directed the Transatlantic Relations Program at Harvard University. From 2017 to 2020 he was Senior Associate and one of the promoters of the Project on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship at the Harvard Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
- Dr. Muñiz is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Club de Madrid, Trustee of the Ortega-Marañón Foundation, member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and Numerary Member of the Real Academia Europea de Doctores.
