Albert Biete was born in Barcelona (Spain) in 1952. He obtained his degree in Medicine and Surgery in the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1975. His career was awarded with the Honour Award. He made his training in Radiation Oncology in the Hospital de la Sta. Creu i Sant Pau of Barcelona, finalizing the residence at the end of 1979 and obtaining the degree of specialist in Radiation Oncology. He obtained a position as specialist in the same hospital (Dpt. of Oncology) and began his work in the field of Gynaecology and Breast Radiation Oncology. In 1982 he obtained the degree of Doctor in Medicine (cum laude) with a thesis on Thermography in breast pathology. During 1985 and 1986 he made a stay in the Academic Unit of the Radiation Oncology Dpt. of The Royal Marsden Hospital (Sutton, London) with Prof. M. Peckham. He obtained a Master in Breast Pathology and another one in Hospital Management (University of Barcelona). The basic fields of interest are breast, prostate and gynaecologic oncology. In the academic field, he has been Assistant and Associate Professor since 1977 until 1987. Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Barcelona for two years. On the present time hi has the position of Professor-Chair of Radiology (University of Barcelona) and Head of the Dpt. of Radiation Oncology of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. ESTRO member since its foundation in 1982, he has been member of the Education Committee, of the Editorial Board of the Journal Radiotherapy and Oncology and the European Board of Radiotherapy as a representative of the UEMS (Radiotherapy Section). He was also founder member of AERO (Spanish Society of Radiotherapy and Oncology) and President for the period 2000-2001. He is also member of ASTRO and EORTC (Radiotherapy Group). He was distinguished with the Gold Medal of AERO in 2007. He is President of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Association against Cancer (Barcelona) and patron of its Scientific Foundation. He has published more than 160 articles in national and international journals, 4 books, 37 book chapters and more than 250 oral communications and posters in scientific meetings.
