{"id":75406,"date":"2019-07-03T20:15:26","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T20:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/raed.academy\/?p=75406"},"modified":"2019-07-15T17:05:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T17:05:11","slug":"the-latest-in-radiotherapy-oncology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/the-latest-in-radiotherapy-oncology\/","title":{"rendered":"The latest in radiotherapy oncology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/academicians\/dr-ferran-guedea-edo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ferran Guedea<\/strong><\/a>, professor of Radiology and Physical Medicine at the <a href=\"http:\/\/ub.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>University of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a>, \u200b\u200bdirector of Radiation Oncology of the <a href=\"http:\/\/ico.gencat.cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Catalan Institute of Oncology<\/strong><\/a> and full academician of the <strong>Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), participated between the past 13 and 15 of May in the <strong>3rd Symposium of Investigation<\/strong> of the American company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.varian.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Varian Medical Systems<\/strong><\/a>, the main international manufacturer of software and treatments of radiotherapy oncology. The appointment brought together in Chicago more than 200 specialists from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The academician of the RAED presented the communication on &#8220;<strong>Effect of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) on the immune system in lung cancer patients unfit for surgery: immunophenotyping analysis&#8221;<\/strong>, where he details the research being done by the Catalan Institute of Oncology in stimulating the immunity of patients when a very high dose of radiotherapy is administered in a very well localized area, in this case in particular the lung. After the presentations an extensive debate was opened among the speakers.<\/p>\n<p>During the symposium, Varian presented its lines of work for the next two years in oncological treatment, which will focus on the fields of translational research, radiotherapy in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, radiology and Big Data.
