\"\"Montserrat Guill\u00e9n<\/strong><\/a>, professor of Quantitative Methods for Economics and Business at the University of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a> and full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), has received for the second time the ICREA Academy Award<\/strong><\/a>, granted by the Institution Catalan Research and Advanced Studies<\/strong><\/a> in recognition of the research work of the teaching staff that develops its activity in a Catalan public university and, at the same time, contribute to retain research talent within the university system of Catalonia. The award was awarded in this edition, the 10th, to 45 researchers, who were recognized during a ceremony that was held on April 30 at the headquarter of the Catalan Government<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Guill\u00e9n, which was already distinguished in 2011, has been awarded again in the category of social sciences for their work on insurance, quantification of risks, big data and applications of statistics in actuarial sciences. With the recognition as ICREA Academia researchers, the 45 professors awarded this year will receive 40,000 euros per year each, for a period of five years. These distinctions are intended for university teachers who do research and teaching and, especially, those who are in a fully active phase and who are expanding their research activity.<\/p>\n

The award has been given to nine teachers of experimental sciences and mathematics, 11 of science engineering, nine from life sciences and medicine, seven from humanities and nine from social and behavioral sciences. With the new distinctions, there are already 274 researchers who have obtained the ICREA Academy qualification in Catalan universities since its launch in 2008. The program is funded by the Catalan Government with six million euros per year. To qualify for the ICREA Academia awards, it’s necessary that the teaching staff and researcher hired or official of the public universities of Catalonia be in possession of the title of doctor, have a permanent and full-time relationship with a public university in Catalonia and be teaching regularly.<\/p>\n

Guill\u00e9n received last year’s prize for the best work presented at the ICA Berlin 2018<\/strong><\/a> international insurance experts’ congress for the article “The transition towards semi-autonomous vehicle insurance: contributions from usage-based data”<\/strong> and was also recognized with the SCOR<\/strong> prize for work on telematics in vehicle insurance.<\/p>\n
