{"id":63434,"date":"2018-12-17T07:58:13","date_gmt":"2018-12-17T07:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/raed.academy\/?p=63434"},"modified":"2018-12-31T11:09:50","modified_gmt":"2018-12-31T11:09:50","slug":"bestiaries-fables-and-metamorphoses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/bestiaries-fables-and-metamorphoses\/","title":{"rendered":"Bestiaries, fables and metamorphoses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-63181 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Mariangela-Vilallonga-Bestiaris-faules-i-metamorfosis.jpg\" alt=\"Mariangela Vilallonga &quot;Bestiaris faules i metamorfosis&quot;\" width=\"400\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/academicians\/dr-mariangela-vilallonga-vives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Mari\u00e0ngela Vilallonga<\/strong><\/a>, director of the <strong>Chair of Literary Heritage Maria \u00c0ngels Anglada-Carles Fages de Climent<\/strong> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udg.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>University of Girona<\/strong><\/a>, vice-president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iec.cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Institute of Catalan Studies<\/strong><\/a> and full academician of the <strong>Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), gave last November 27 the closing conference of the academic year 2018 of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acvc.cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Catalonia<\/strong><\/a>, which was held in the Assembly Hall of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.covb.cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Official Association of Veterinarians of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a>, \u200b\u200bheadquarters of the corporation. Vilallonga intervened with the work <strong>&#8220;Bestiaris, faules i metamorfosis&#8221;<\/strong> (Bestiaries, fables and metamorphoses). The session was presented by the academician and general secretary of the Academy of Veterinary Sciences and at the same time academician and vice-president of the RAED <a href=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/academicians\/dra-maria-dels-angels-calvo-torras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Maria \u00c0ngels Calvo<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Vilallonga presented the particularities of the bestiary, a literary genre that includes a set of animals and monsters with different symbols. It&#8217;s a basically medieval genre, which transmitted knowledge through illuminated manuscripts with a didactic function. Animals related to virtues and defects or exemplified the wonders of the world created by God. The bestiary set numerous festivals and Catalan customs.<\/p>\n<p>The fable, on the other hand, is a short story of fiction where the protagonists are humanized animals or plants. It also has a generally ethical didactic character that is shown at the end of the story. Created in classical antiquity, among its authors include <strong>Aesop<\/strong> and <strong>Phaedrus<\/strong>. In medieval times they acquire a religious character and with the Enlightenment they have a new educational purpose.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-63178\" src=\"https:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Mariangela-Vilallonga-bestiario-int.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"361\" height=\"251\" \/>The academician also stressed that in the Renaissance the fables had the interest of the humanists and <strong>Leonardo da Vinci<\/strong>, for example, composed a book of fables. Of the Contemporary Age she highlighted great fabulists like <strong>George Orwell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Metamorphosis, the process through which an insect or an amphibian passes through different stages of its development, also has its literary correlate. Vilallonga cited <strong>&#8220;The Metamorphoses&#8221;<\/strong> by the Roman poet <strong>Ovid<\/strong>, which describe the creation and history of the world. As a close reference, she highlighted <strong>&#8220;La salamandra&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0(The salamander) by <strong>Merc\u00e8 Rodoreda<\/strong>. In the field of plastic arts, metamorphoses are the main source of inspiration in terms of iconography and mythological themes, especially in Renaissance and Baroque art.
