\"FerranFerran Guedea<\/strong><\/a>, professor of Radiology and Physical Medicine at the University of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a>, \u200b\u200bdirector of Radiation Oncology at the Catalan Institute of Oncology<\/strong><\/a> (ICO) and full academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), participated in the Congress of the Mexican Society of Oncology and Radiotherapy<\/strong><\/a> that was held in Puerto Vallarta between past 16 and 19 November with the conference “Current evidence and future directions of Radiation Oncology: from Research to Clinic”<\/strong>. After the intervention, a lively debate took place in which the more than 250 specialists who gathered at the congress could participate.<\/p>\n

Guedea presented the research that is being done in the ICO on the stimulation of patients’ immunity when a very high dose of radiotherapy is administered in a well localized area, in this case the lung. The technique that allows this immune stimulation is the extracranial stereotactic radiotherapy (SBRT) that is developed with great success in this pioneering centre in Catalonia and Spain.<\/p>\n

The participation of the academician was framed in the agreements that RAED has signed with various Mexican institutions in recent weeks. The congress was led by Adela Poitevin<\/strong>, president of the Mexican Society of Oncology and Radiotherapy, considered one of the best oncology specialists in the country.
