{"id":57509,"date":"2018-10-04T11:19:51","date_gmt":"2018-10-04T11:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raed.academy\/?p=57509"},"modified":"2018-10-08T14:59:05","modified_gmt":"2018-10-08T14:59:05","slug":"history-of-mathematics-elements-of-euclid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/history-of-mathematics-elements-of-euclid\/","title":{"rendered":"Euclid, mathematician"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-57287\" src=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/libro-historia-de-la-matematica-Grecia-II.jpg\" alt=\"libro historia de la matem\u00e1tica Grecia II\" width=\"350\" height=\"567\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/academicians\/dr-josep-pla-carrera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Josep Pla i Carrera<\/strong><\/a>, professor emeritus of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>University of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a> and supernumerary academician of the <strong>Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED) has presented a new instalment of his work <strong>&#8220;Hist\u00f2ria de la matem\u00e0tica: resultats, textos i contextos&#8221;<\/strong> (History of mathematics: results, texts and contexts), an ambitious project directed by the full academician of number of the RAED and also professor emeritus of the University of Barcelona <a href=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/academicians\/dr-pilar-bayer-isant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Pilar Bayer<\/strong><\/a>, to whom this third volume he devotes: <strong>&#8220;Gr\u00e8cia IIa (Elements d&#8217;Euclides, llibres I, II, III, IV, V i VI)&#8221;<\/strong> (Greece 2a (Elements of Euclid, books I, II, III, IV, V and VI)). The complete collection is edited by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iec.cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Institute of Catalan Studies<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The work becomes a complete history of mathematics and is divided, for now, into six volumes that only reach the mathematics of antiquity and that should have a continuity not yet defined. To date the issues\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Hist\u00f2ria de la Matem\u00e0tica: Egipte i Mesopot\u00e0mia. Resultats, textos i contextos&#8221;<\/strong> (History of Mathematics: Egypt and Mesopotamia, Results, Texts and Contexts) (2016), <strong> &#8220;Hist\u00f2ria de la Matem\u00e0tica: Gr\u00e8cia I (de Tales i Pit\u00e0gores a Plat\u00f3 i Arist\u00f2til). Resultats, textos i contextos&#8221;<\/strong> (History of Mathematics: Greece I (from Thales and Pythagoras to Plato and Aristotle), results, texts and contexts) (2016), and the current one &#8220;Gr\u00e8cia IIa (Elements d&#8217;Euclides, llibres I, II, III, IV, V i VI)&#8221; (Greece 2a (Elements of Euclid, books I, II, III, IV, V and VI)) have been published. It&#8217;s in the process of editing <b>&#8220;Hist\u00f2ria de la Matem\u00e0tica: Gr\u00e8cia IIb (Elements d&#8217;Euclides, llibres VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII and XIII)&#8221;<\/b> (History of Mathematics: Greece 2b (Elements of Euclid, books VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII and XIII)).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57293 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/elementos-de-Euclides-int.jpg\" alt=\"Elementos de Euclides\" width=\"380\" height=\"231\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The academician has also begun the writing of the next installment, which will be titled <strong>&#8220;Hist\u00f2ria de la Matem\u00e0tica: Gr\u00e8cia III&#8221;<\/strong> (History of Mathematics: Greece III). The first part, which groups the studies of Euclides and Archimedes, is already finished, and the volume will be finalized throughout the first quarter of 2019 with the inclusion of Apollonius.
