The Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED) held between the 11 and 18 July its 4th International Act-European Congress of Interdisciplinary Research<\/strong> in various Mediterranean capitals and aboard the cruise that took the participants to the different venues. During the trip, the RAED held several academic events in which some thirty papers were presented and two new Nobel laureates were honored: Barry Barish<\/strong><\/a>, Nobel prize in Physics in 2017, and Richard Schrock<\/strong><\/a>, Nobel prize in Chemistry in 2005. Nobel laureates and academicians Jerome Friedman<\/strong><\/a> and Aaron Ciechanover<\/strong><\/a>, as well as cardinal and honorary academician Llu\u00eds Mart\u00ednez Sistach<\/strong><\/a>, were also part of the expedition.<\/p>\nThe academic acts began with a debate that took place in the Pontifical Academy of Sciences<\/strong><\/a> in Rome, located in the Casina Pio IV of the Vatican, in which several academicians participated, including Nobel laureates and honorary academicians who participated in the expedition, in addition to the host, the great chancellor of the Pontifical Academy, Monsignor Marcelo S\u00e1nchez Sorondo<\/strong>. Josep Maria Sim\u00f3n<\/strong>, honorary president of the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations<\/strong><\/a>; Cecilia Kindel\u00e1n<\/strong>, member of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research<\/strong> of the RAED, and Rosal\u00eda Arteaga<\/strong><\/a>, honorary academician of the RAED and former president of Ecuador, had an active participation in the debate.<\/p>\n Throughout the more than two hours of the debate, which was moderated by the academician and president of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute, Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Calvo<\/strong><\/a>, topics related to ethics in science were discussed, with climate change based on the ideas contained in the encyclical “Laudato Si” published by pope Francis<\/strong> in 2015. The debate will also deal with burning issues in today’s world, such as the issue of immigration and education. Once this act was completed, a special visit was organized to the Basilica of San Pedro and the Sistine Chapel.<\/p>\n The second part of the academic events took place on board the cruise, where 24 of the papers by the attending academicians were presented. All of them will soon be published in a monographic publication. The third and last part of this academic meeting took place in the Majorcan municipality of Valldemossa, where the president of the Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin International Piano Festival<\/strong><\/a>, Rosa Capllong<\/strong>, gave a lecture under the title “George Sand y Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin, un invierno en Mallorca”<\/strong> (George Sand and Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin, a winter in Mallorca).
