Pedro Clar\u00f3s<\/strong><\/a>, numerary member and vice-president of the governing board of the Royal European Academy of Doctors – Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), was invested with the Gran Cruz medal of the Spanish Institution of Humanitarian Merit<\/strong><\/a> during a solemn ceremony held in Barcelona on Saturday 16 June. The organisation thus recognised his long scientific career, which has led to his role as one of the leading ear, nose and throat specialists of both Spain and Europe as a whole, and a person much in demand at major institutions like the Liceo of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a>. It also recognised his dedication to patients of limited means, via the initiatives of the Clar\u00f3s Foundation<\/strong><\/a>, an institution that also sponsors projects in cooperation with the Clar\u00f3s Clinic<\/strong><\/a> and doctors from developing countries.<\/p>\n\u201cThis is an important day for me, marking as it does the moment in which I receive the highest distinction of this institution. I appreciate that this nomination is the result of having devoted an important part of my life to treating, operating on and helping to rebuild the lives of many patients of limited means in the different emerging countries that we have visited over the years. There have been 105 such humanitarian missions to date. It is clear that this cannot be done by one person acting alone, but that it is rather the fruit of teamwork on the part of the anonymous contributors who have generously and repeatedly helped me during these 25 years\u201d, said Dr Clar\u00f3s in his speech of thanks.<\/p>\n
