{"id":44156,"date":"2018-04-02T09:34:39","date_gmt":"2018-04-02T09:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raed.academy\/?p=44156"},"modified":"2018-04-06T16:30:17","modified_gmt":"2018-04-06T16:30:17","slug":"water-consumption-around-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/water-consumption-around-world\/","title":{"rendered":"We are water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-44250\" src=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/libro-Lluis-Serra-Majem-Beverage-Consumption-Habits-around-the-World.jpg\" alt=\"Llibre Llu\u00eds Serra Majem - Beverage Consumption Habits around the World\" width=\"290\" height=\"417\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/academicians\/dr-lluis-serra-majem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Llu\u00eds Serra Majem<\/strong><\/a>, full academician of the <strong>Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), is the editor of the work <strong>&#8220;Beverage consumption around the world: association with total water and energy intakes&#8221;<\/strong>, a monograph published by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdpi.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Multidisciplinary Digital Publications\u00a0Institute<\/strong><\/a> (MDPI) in December 2017 that collects all the material that <strong>Nutrients<\/strong> magazine devoted to water intake in a special issue that bore the same title.<\/p>\n<p>The work tries to evaluate the water consumption among the population of different climates and regions. &#8220;Fluid intake has hardly been evaluated, and hydration status has been measured only rarely in epidemiological studies, although guidelines have been established to determine how much water humans need to avoid dehydration and optimize physical and psychological function. There is limited data available on the total intake of water and beverages, therefore, the percentage of the population with inadequate water intake is unknown. There is a clear need for studies in different scenarios around the world that quantify the total water intake and drinks and explore the associations between the types of drinks consumed and the energy intake&#8221;, says the academician.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-44249 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Lluis-Serra-Majem.jpg\" alt=\"Lluis Serra Majem\" width=\"410\" height=\"273\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the goal of both the book and the Nutrients special issue is to publish documents that detail the analysis of nutritional databases regarding the consumption of adequate amounts of total water. A rigorous study on how the consumption of beverages varies according to age, sex, day of the week and time of day and how it relates to total water intake.
