Dr. Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez de Posada<\/p><\/div>\n

Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez de Posada<\/strong>, full academician of the Spanish Royal National Academy of Medicine<\/strong><\/a> and collaborator of the Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), has given the conference “La Academia de Ciencias del matem\u00e1tico Jorge Juan”<\/strong> (The Academy of Sciences of the mathematician Jorge Juan) in the Faculty of Mathematics Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid<\/strong><\/a>. The event is part of the Seminar on the History of Mathematics<\/strong> held by the centre. In his presentation, Gonz\u00e1lez de Posada has reviewed the important discoveries of this scientist of the Spanish Enlightenment, among them the calculations on the longitude of the terrestrial meridian and his mathematical demonstration that the Earth is flattened at its poles. The academician has also influenced the contribution of this Alicante scientist in the development of naval engineering and astronomy studies and, especially, his commitment to studies and the development of science.<\/p>\n

Professor of Applied Physics at the Complutense University of Madrid, Gonz\u00e1lez de Posada is an engineer and doctor of Roads, Canals and Ports from the Polytechnic University of Madrid<\/strong><\/a>, graduated in Philosophy and Letters from the Pontifical University of Salamanca<\/strong> <\/a>and has a degree in Physical Sciences from the University Complutense of Madrid.
