{"id":38528,"date":"2017-12-05T07:07:42","date_gmt":"2017-12-05T07:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raed.academy\/?p=38528"},"modified":"2017-12-07T16:48:23","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T16:48:23","slug":"rethink-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/raed.academy\/en\/rethink-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe, object of desire"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>&#8220;There is an urgent need to raise the democratic guard and put representative democracy back at the centre of European economic policies&#8221;<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_38431\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38431\" class=\"wp-image-38431\" src=\"http:\/\/raed.academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Ina-Piperaki.jpg\" alt=\"Ina Piperaki\" width=\"280\" height=\"373\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-38431\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ina Piperaki<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Ina Piperaki<\/strong>, corresponding academician for Greece of the <strong>Royal European Academy of Doctors-Barcelona 1914<\/strong> (RAED), presented in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>European Parliament<\/strong><\/a>, within the colloquium &#8220;<strong>Repenser l&#8217;Europe&#8221;<\/strong>, the work <strong>&#8220;Une nouvelle vision pour l&#8217;Europe: engagement citoyen et volont\u00e9 humaniste&#8221;<\/strong>, where she proposes a series of urgent measures to make the European Union (EU) a framework of coexistence and democracy in which all its citizens are identified and involved. &#8220;We must make Europe an object of desire for Europeans&#8221;, she says.<\/p>\n<p>These priorities pointed out by Piperaki go, fundamentally, to reinforce the political role of the Union, with a Parliament directly elected by the citizens and for real economic and fiscal integration. All this is guaranteed by the democratic mechanisms that emanate from the original European character of the EU. &#8220;There is an urgent need to raise the democratic guard and to put representative democracy at the centre of European economic policies, it&#8217;s time to get out of the opacity in which this European power evolves by introducing an institution democratically into its heart. Only one Parliamentary Assembly has the necessary legitimacy to remind the government of the euro area of \u200b\u200bits responsibilities&#8221;, the academician reflects.<\/p>\n<p>Piperaki believes that only this transnational vision can guarantee the future of a strong and deeply democratic European Union. &#8220;Democracy is a very fragile regime and it depends on the will, the freedom, the sense of humanism and the maturity of the people or peoples.
